The 12th day of December 2007 at Energetyka-Rokita in Brzeg Dolny saw a ceremonial ground breaking for Combined Heat and Power Plant EC 3.
The event organised by the Board of Energetyka-Rokita had a very formal setting and gathered a number of guests committed to the construction of the facility. The ground breaking ceremony was also attended by Aleksander Marek Skorupa, Member of Parliament, Piotr Maciejewski, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of PCC Rokita, PCC Rokita Board Members, partners representing the banking sector that will finance the project and the contractors. The foundation stone was solemnly laid.
The inaugurated project is crucial for Energetyka Rokita and for the residents of Brzeg Dolny, who consume a large amount of heat generated by the company. The new combined heat and power plant will supply electricity and heat in the form of process steam to PCC Rokita and hot utility water to the town of Brzeg Dolny.
The new power generation facilities will replace the currently operated obsolete and inefficient combined heat and power plants. The new project was also driven by ecological reasons, because it will help considerably reduce dust, SO2 and NOx emissions. Biomass co-combustion with coal, flexible operation of the turbine-generator set and recycling of production waste will have a positive impact on the project’s efficiency. Achieving an ecologically sound effect and the conformity of Energetyka-Rokita with BAT requirements resulted in obtaining a large EU subsidy, which was granted by the National Fund for Environment Protection and Water Management.
The construction of the new Combined Heat and Power Plant will be finished at the end of September 2008 and its cost is estimated at PLN 110 million.
